The Return of Grün

We’re so happy! We’re feeling ecstatic! This is great news for Deutschland volleyball!

The great Angelina Grün has rejoined the German team and will fight for a spot on the roster for the upcoming 2011 European Championship. After retiring from indoor volleyball in 2008, Angelina decided to try beach volleyball and even plan on qualifying for the 2012 Olympics. Obviously, she didn’t achieve any international success. She dissolved her beach partnership with Rieke Brink-Abeler before realizing that she could stage a comeback in indoor volleyball.

Fast forward to today…

It’s going to take a while before she can completely adjust playing indoor volleyball again but we know she can do it knowing that she has played 272 indoor matches for Germany. “My return to indoor is a challenge. The pace has increased tremendously in recent years and in the beginning it was too quick for me sometimes. But things are progressing every day and the girls make it easy for me to settle myself again.” said Angelina.

Seriously, Germany needs a veteran on the team right now. We hope coach Guidetti takes her to the Euro Champs. “Nobody knows if it’ll work. She has motivation. How the body reacts to stress – she has left indoor for 2 years. If she has the desire and stamina, and if they can help the team, only then she could also be an alternative for the European Championship.” said Guidetti.

Alternative?

Come on coach! This is Angelina Grun! The best German volleyball player we’ve ever seen in the last 6 years or so. Knowing your team performed poorly at the Grand Prix, we think Angelina’s presence on the team will provide emotional support for your young players. She’s been there and done that! She might not be physically ready but at least she’s there to glue your team together in times they start freaking out and start messing up just like the so many forgettable moments we saw of your team at the 2011 GP.

#JustSaying.

Anyways, we’re optimistic Grun will make it on the final roster. If not, then we hope to see her playing indoor professionally again.
