2012 NCSVA National Championships

Santa Monica, CA. – The National Collegiate Sand Volleyball Association (NCSVA) would like to congratulate the 2012 NCSVA Mens National Champions: Troy Rieck and Shane Sigg from the University of North Texas, and the 2012 NCSVA Women’s National Champions: Zuzana Markova & Tetiana Sukach from the University of Louisana Monroe.

The NCSVA National Championships was held in Santa Monica, California on Saturday, August 11th. Sponsored by Honu Sandals and the National Volleyball League (NVL) and sanctioned by the USAV, this years NCSVA championships saw some of the best collegiate beach volleyball players from around the country compete for the title of National Collegiate Sand Volleyball Champions. Winners from several regional events including New York, Texas and Florida made the trip out to Southern Californiato vie for the NCSVA title.

For the first time ever, the mens final had a non-California team win the championship. The mens team of Troy and Shane from the University of North Texas defeated Etan Bennett and David Evans from Stevens Institute of Technology. The women’s final featured Megan Thornberry and Kati Duddridge from the University of Southern California versus Tatiana and Zuzana from the University of Louisana Monroe. In addition to great prizes from Honu, Oakley and Smack Sportswear, the NCSVA National Champions received an automatic berth into the NVL Qualifier Tour Championships coming to Santa Monica, CA in September.

Sinjin Smith, the founder of NCSVA, states “It was exciting to see college players from all over the country compete against California schools and win. The beach Volleyball culture continues to grow in College for men and women every year. The winners of this Championships will have the unique opportunity to play against the NVL pros to see where they stack up.”

The NCSVA offers collegiate players, men and women, the opportunity to play sand/beach volleyball at the collegiate level. Open to any college student, regional events are held around the country leading to the National Championships. The finals could be seen live streaming for the first time in the six year history of the Open Collegiate Championships. For further information, visit www.ncsva.com.
