    Just caught the Men’s USA v Russia match. Awesome match and great comeback by The Russia to win it from the USA’s 3rd set Match point. The Men’s competition is really going to be exciting next week.

    Now it remains to be seen the Brasil Womens will even qualify for the quarterfinals

    this is so unbelievable! everything is upside down!!!!! japan and korea in the semis??????

    i’m so pissed at Fivb for these stupid pools. how do you get 3 of the weakest teams in the same pool (domin. rep., algeria and britain)? of course japan, russia and italy had a very easy time to get to the quarters. on the other pool, turkey and serbia could have even qualified if they were in the other pool.

    how did japan beat china? that is not fair, japan shouldn’t even be at the olympics.

    now brazil has another shot at redemption but the US will probably win its first ever gold.

      The olympics pool round robin formats are always arranged to allow the hosting country to get the best chance of getting into the quarterfinals

      This helps to generate interest in the sport in the hosting country and also gives the hosting country the chance to be able to play more than one match

      Overall though the weaker pool usually gets wiped out at the quarterfinals except for the top ranked team in that pool

      Japan did well to beat some of the top teams, so take the opportunity to see how they capitalise on their style of play/strengths to win. Its always interesting to see and analyse how unexpected teams managed to win, because its definitely not luck if any team can qualify for the semi finals

        maybe so, geran, but GB had 0% chances to get to QT. it’s ridiculous to place all 3 weakest teams in one pool. turkey might have made to QTs in this pool, or maybe even serbia.

    US won gold long time ago. And Japan is a good team no because somebody doesn’t like means they are not good. Serbia was a deception. Korea won Brasil so than mean something or not? Some people just talk without any knowledge

      let’s see, these are the facts. if china plays japan, they win 4 out of 5 times. japan got very lucky. they almost didn’t make to london, it could have easily been thailand. then they get the weakest pool, they couldn’t beat italy or russia but get a free pass to the QT. they got lucky, beating china by just 2 points. they have no chance to get to gold.

      at least korea beat brazil and italy. and they put up a big fight against US.

    Cant believe the Russian Women and the US Men lost out in the quarter finals. Had expected them to get into the semi finals at least

    The Russian women became to predictable reverting to only using the outside hitters allowing Brasil to clinically block and dig up their spikes. They really need to start using their MB or else by the time they get to any finals, their OH are well and truly exhausted.

    The US men’s service reception was punished by Italian’s serving (didnt see any of that in their preliminary matches) and the US Team just couldnt seem to get into the groove. Heartbreaking match to watch but I have high hopes for them in the near future having seen the younger players like Patak & Anderson in the world cup in 2011.

    Hello, volleyball fans around the world.
    I just joined this forum seeking your help for Kim Yeon-Koung, the South Korean player who just won MVP and Scoring category in London 2012 Olympics.
    I’m not sure if all of you are aware of Kim Yeon-Koung’s status, but currently, she is facing contract/legal with her old team, Heung-guk Pink Spiders, and the Korean Volleyball Federation.
    They are refusing to let Kim go back to Turkey or make her a free agent. At this rate, Kim will either force to come back to Korea or be sent to another team against her choice.
    If you are already aware of this entire situation, and was wondering how you could help, then I have a suggestion.
    Yim Tae-Hee is the chairman of Korean Volleyball Federation. If he were to sign Kim’s release letter, she will gain her free agent status from Heung-guk Pink Spiders.
    But Yim Tae-hee has refused to do so, and most likely will not sign it. However, Yim is a policitian running for Presidency in South Korea, and does not like negative publicity about him.
    He has already closed his Twitter account, but he still has a facebook page, where Korean fans are fighting for Kim’s cause.
    If you were to leave a comment, “FREE KIM YEON-KOUNG”, or “RELEASE KIM YEON-KOUNG”, then he would be forced to make a good decision for his reputation.
    Here is his facebook page, and I certainly hope all volleyball fans around the world, and Kim’s fans would support us in this difficult fight. Please spread the word.
