Wallace & Brazil Could Not Stop Ivan Zaytsev

Ivan Zaytsev scored 32 points against Brazil yesterday and led Italy to win an epic 5 set match (18-25, 25-19, 25-21, 24-26, 15-8). The opposite hitter was just on fire and the Brazilians could not stop him despite replacing Evandro with Wallace in the last 2 sets.

Zaytsev also had the support of his teammates like Osmany Juantorena who scored 17 points plus the brilliant setting of Simone Giannelli.

“I think we played well today and we were focused. We lost the first set because we had a poor service game, but then we got better and played better defense. The only thing that I regret is that we didn’t get to finish the match in the fourth set, but even so, every victory against Brazil is a good one.” -Zaytsev

With this victory, Italy remains undefeated with 2 wins while Brazil has 1-1 record. The Italians will face Serbia (1-1) later today and Germany will try to score their first win against Brazil to end Round 1 of the Volleyball Nations League aka VNL.
