Kerri Walsh Jennings’ Husband Almost Left Her

We’re so happy for you Kerri that things are great now and a 4th gold medal with April in Rio is within your reach!

In this article released by USA Today, the 3 time Olympic gold medalist reveals that her drive to succeed almost destroyed her marriage. After the 2008 Olympics, she decided to visit a sports psychologist.

“My life was falling apart. At the time, my husband was done. There was so much internal pressure to win and repeat from Athens (2004). Tt wasn’t joyful, it was work. In putting my head down and going to work, I disconnected from my husband and my family.”

With that disconnection, her beach volleyball player husband, Casey Jennings, turned to alcohol and entered rehab. Kerri then reached out to a sport psychologist, Michael Gervais, who was also their marriage therapist.

“I knew he loved me, and I knew I loved him. Talking to Gervais, he’s like, ‘If one of you has the tip of your pinky toe in, you have hope.’ I had my whole self in, my husband still had the tip of his pinky toe (in), so I had hope.”

Fast forward to today, life is so much better and so much happier for Kerri, Casey and their 3 adorable kids.

“It’s never going to be perfect, but it’s awesome right now. With all the things that we went through, I wouldn’t trade a thing to be where we are today.”
