Poland Makes A Great HOME For Volleyball

FACT: Poland <3 Volleyball! Per FIVB:

The home team’s victory capped a brilliant tournament that included 18 days of competition, kicking off at the Warsaw National Stadium on August 30 in front of more than 62,000 loyal spectators – a unique event in the history of volleyball. In fact, more than half a million fans -563,263- watched the 103 matches, smashing the previous record in the competition. In Italy, four years ago, the total was 339,324, while in Japan in 2006 it was 298,352.

Whoever will host of the 2018 Men’s World Championship (Japan will host the 2018 Women’s World Champs), we hope that country can do the same.

FIVB President tells The Associated Press 3 days ago:

“Tonight and the last three weeks have shown that volleyball is one of the most popular sports in the world,” Graca said. “The huge numbers of fans in Poland have demonstrated that volleyball can be a spectacular festival of sport and entertainment. This gives us real momentum going into Rio 2016 where the Brazilian passion for volleyball will ensure one of the greatest Olympic competitions of all time.”

Graca described the atmosphere at the tournament as “like football” with fans singing, swaying and chanting.

“Football is not so popular here (in Poland) as in the rest of the world, and volleyball has taken its place,” Graca said. “It’s amazing the popularity of the volleyball here.”

Thank you Poland for the amazing and wonderful job hosting the World Championship!
