MVP Mariusz Wlazly Says Goodbye

What a way to end his career.

The Best Opposite Hitter, MVP of the 2014 FIVB Men’s World Championship and gold medalist, Mariusz Wlazly, decides to end his career as a World Champion.

“This is something that every player dreams of.

To win the World Championship gold for his country. I think that we are still in shocked and over the moon on what my team and I have accomplished.

My mission for the National Team has come to an end. I am glad that I was part of something this huge but it is time to tell to myself that it is enough. This team can play against the best and I hope that this team will continue to make history.”

In case you didn’t know, the 31 year old Wlazly gave up playing for Poland in 2010 because of a conflict with management and only decided to return this year when Coach Anastasi was fired Coach Stephane Antiga was hired.

On top of being a World Champion, Mariusz has also won a silver medal at the 2006 World Championship and represented Poland at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He has also won several titles and individual awards with his club team, Skra Belchatow.

We wonder who will succeed him. Will Antiga bring Bartman back?

The 2016 Olympics is less than 2 years away and so Coach Antiga better start developing a reliable opposite hitter or maybe he can bring Wlazly back.

You never know…

On behalf of all volleyball fans from all over the world, thank you so much Mariusz for all the great, unforgettable and amazing volleyball moments and memories you’ve shared with us. You have inspired a generation who will forever remember you as a WORLD CHAMPION and one of the world’s best players.

We <3 you! (image: FIVB)
