Mohamed Masoud aka Mr. Tallest Player

We wish we were as tall as Mohamed Masoud.

In an article released by the FIVB, the tallest player of the U21 World Championship from Egypt has a few thoughts to share about this height and ambitions.

Per FIVB:

The tallest player of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship, Egyptian middle blocker Mohamed Masoud, is remarkable not only for his height, but he also for being Egypt’s best scorer after the team’s first five matches in the tournament.

Mohamed Masoud thinks that his height of 2.11 meters ( gave him a chance to start his volleyball career. He was studying in high school when a representative of Smouha volleyball club spotted him and invited him to play for the team from Alexandria. However, he thinks that the height is not merely sufficient to be successful in volleyball and on certain days it simply does not help. ”For example, today I could not play well with the back player and the back player could not play well with me,” Mohamed said after Egypt lost to India by 1-3.

According to his team captain Islam Abdelkader, Mohamed’s success is due to his effective spikes and blocks. He was awarded as the Best Blocker in the CAVB Volleyball Men’s U21 African Championship. At the World Championship in Turkey he has also impressed with his talent for blocking. Mohamed added as many as 14 kill blocks to his overall individual tally of 63 points.

For now his main wish is to continue his career in volleyball and to play well for Egypt’s senior men’s national team.

”I want to be successful in volleyball and I have strong ambitions regarding my volleyball career. I want to develop my skills in volleyball and maybe one day to play for a foreign club. But first, I want to play well for my national team here, at the World Championship, and contribute to a successful performance by the team,” Masoud said.

As of press time, Mohamed and Egypt are competing in the Classification Round of the tournament.
