The World Grand Champions Cup is not as important as other major FIVB tournaments that they both want to rest and fulfill their obligations with their Russian club team, Dinamo Moscow.
Dinamo’s team manager and former player, Elena Godina, has apologized to the fans for the duo’s decision.
In the absence of Kosheleva and Obmochaeva, Sokolova is now expected to lead the Russian squad next month in Japan. Coach Yury Marichev will heavily rely on his most experienced player + the other 13 players who have never competed in the quadrennial event.
