Peru Defeats Brazil

December 2nd, 2012

Since their unforgettable victory against Brazil last week, we happily share the great great great news that volleyball in Peru has received a positively overwhelming support from the media and most of all from the Peruvian President Ollanta Humala.

3 days ago in Lima, Mr. President and Coach Natalia Malaga discussed for over an hour the future of the sport.

“We asked the president to help us with the construction of the [Volleyball Training] Coliseum which is almost finished, and he said he will talk with the people of IPD [Peruvian Sports Institute] who are in charge of this issue. All national teams can train in these facilities. We can have training courts, a gym and resting and dining areas all in one place. I think that’s a big step for the development of the players.” shares Coach Malaga.

This is awesome! Volleyball gets the support it truly deserves!

Side Dish: Coach Malaga’s team is popularly known now as the new “Matadorcitas” which means “little spikers”.

This is a GREAT sign and a GREAT achievement for the Peruvian Girls!

The future looks bright for Peru who was a dominant team back in the 80s.

In front of more than 3,000 fans who cheered for them throughout the 5-set match at the Coliseo Miguel Grau del Callao, in Lima, Peru, Coach Natalia Malaga’s Youth Squad defeated Brazil (25-18, 18-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-10).

Their home fans were treated to an amazing volleyball match which lasted for more than 2 hours (138 minutes). Winning the 2012 South American Girls’ Youth Championship Crown grants Peru together with Brazil and bronze medalist Argentina a trip to the 2013 Girl’s World Youth Championship to be held in Thailand.

Take note, the last time Peru won the crown was 32 years ago, ie 1980. It’s been a lonnggggggggggggg time!

Super proud of Coach Malaga’s achievement. Knowing that she was among Peru’s top player back in the days, her skills and experience give Peruvian volleyball hope to be among the world’s top teams. Believe it or not, we just know that Peru will be represented at the 2016 Olympics.
