Mari Steinbrecher Will NOT Play for Germany

FINALLY!

Mari has spoken about the rumors from a long time ago if she was indeed invited to play for Germany after being cut from the Brazilian National Team in 2012.

The 2008 Olympic gold medalist tells Globoesporte.globo.com:

“Coach Giovanni Guidetti is my friend. He asked if I would like to play for Germany. I declined the offer because some problems took place. Despite being one of the richest countries in the world, Germany is not investing a lot of money for their volleyball program. Their players are playing purely for the love of their country. If I go there, they’d have to spend a lot of money for my car, apartment and other needs.

I love Brazil. so at the moment I don’t have the desire to play for Germany.

Maybe someday…”

Mari, who will play for Brazilian club team Osasco in the coming season, also reveals that she NO PLANS to play for the Brazilian national team.

“I have some other goals in life and I am also focused to get in the best shape for the coming season.”

As of press time, the German Federation nor Coach Guidetti has spoken about Mari’s revelation.

In case you didn’t know, Mari has dual citizenship (Brazilian and German).
