Giba On A Mission To Win London Gold

Gamova Defends Giba

The 2 time Olympic silver medalist has posted on her Instagram defending Giba.

Dear friends,

The discussions of Giba’s words have been going for a few days. The FIVB athletic commission has hols it’s regular meeting in Lozzane on January 30. I am sure, that the question regarding our guys, which have been mentioned in Maclaren report, will be discussed. I wish the journalists would quote exactly Giba’s words and correctly translate it, and would not escalate the situation.

Please, pay no attention to unproven accusations. A person is innocent, until proven guilty and solid evidence has been presented.

Sadly, no other Brazilian player has stood up for Giba.

Olympic Champions VS Giba

Two Olympic gold medalists have reacted to Giba’s mission including one of volleyball’s most respected athletes, Sergey Tetyukhin.

“He knows very well the price we paid to win that gold medal. I understand that the defeat in London is not letting him to live in peace and that he did not want to finish his career like that. But, you need to always play with dignity and to remain a man. The statement he gave are words of a coward!” -Sergey Tetyukhin.

“We made Giba very sad in that Olympic final. He is still haunted by that defeat. Brazilians thought they won the gold after winning the first 2 sets but they lost the match. Giba now wants to change the way he finished his career. The only truth is that we won that match with our skills, desire to win and faith. We did not use dirty tricks.” -Taray Khtey

Giba’s friend Verbox also reacted to his statement.

“Brazil won the gold medal in (2016) Rio because they were better than all the other teams. Russia won the gold medal in (2012) London because of the same reason. You began to celebrate too early in that finals but Tetyukhin believed until the very end we could win. So, are you saying now that a man like Tetyukhin won that gold medal because he used some kind of drug? It is strange to hear these words from a friend.” -Alexey Verbov

Alekno Burns Giba With 2002 Doping Case

Told you it’s going to be a soap opera.

Coach Alekno, head coach of the 2012 Olympic gold medal team, is not a happy camper with Giba’s mission. The 50 year old publicly reminded Giba on his positive doping test back in 2002 which resulted to Giba getting suspended.

“Let me first remind Giba that he was suspended back in 2003 for marijuana use. This is a fact and it would be better for him to think about it. Giba is not the right person to talk about who should be awarded with the medal” -Alekno

Ouch!

Giba’s Mission

We really have to wait and see how Giba’s trip to Switzerland will end up.

The legendary Giba was reunited with Coach Rezende a couple of days ago and shared a post on his IG stating that he has a mission for his 2012 Olympic teammates.

What is the mission? He is going to Switzerland to speak with the FIVB and discuss the chances for Brazil to take the gold away from the Russian team who reportedly had a few players tested positive for doping during the tournament in London.

What are the chances that he’d succeed?

We don’t really know. We could be wrong but as far as we know that International Olympic Committee – not the FIVB – is the responsible party to decide if Russia will be disqualified or not.

For now, we have to stay tuned.
