Brazil Loses “#1” Crown

Coach Guimaraes knew this would happen.

One of the hardest things to do in life is to stay on top.

After finishing 5th at the recently concluded FIVB World Cup, Brazil aka The World’s #1 Team for 4 Years has lost its #1 World Ranking to the United States of America & currently sits at #2. The new rankings released by the FIVB also shows Russia’s significant drop from 3rd to 6th, the Dominican Republic from 14th to 10th, 2007 and 2011 World Cup Champions Italy from 7th to 4th and Japan climbs one spot and currently sits as the #3 team in the world.

One remarkable fact we notice with the world rankings is that the top 4 teams represent different zones: USA for North America, Brazil for South America, Asia is represented by Japan and Europe’s one and only Italy. It’s hard to tell nowadays on who is going to win a major FIVB tournament. With these results, we have a feeling that next year’s Olympic Games would bring a lot of epic matches.

So excited!

Side Note: We could be wrong but in 2004 USA became the #1 team before the Olympic Games and Brazil was #2. USA finished 5th while Brazil ended the tourney as the 4th placed team.
