Cuban Yoandry Leal Wants To Play For Brazil BUT …

There’s a bit of a drama.

After receiving his Brazilian citizenship last year, the former Cuban star player is interested to play for the National Team BUT Leal reveals Brazilian players DO NOT WANT him to be on the team.

In an article released by UOL ESPORTE, the outside hitter, who left Cuba in 2010, reveals his story.

“Some players do not want me to play but most of them do. I’ve talked to many players and they are interested for me to be on the team. I’m playing well. I will do my job to help them stay on top. It is something that should work. I do not know how things are going though. I have to wait for the call at the end of the (club) season and I’ll be very happy to accept the invite.”

Leal also shares his friendships with the players who are on the National Team.

“I talk to William (setter), Wallace (opposite hitter), Eder (middle blocker) and Isac (middle blocker) more. Wallace has talked to Lucas and Serginho and they support my intent to play for Brazil. However, it is the decision of the Federation if they want me or not.”

Coach Rezende, who recently renewed his coaching job with the team, has stayed quiet in regards to Leal’s interest.

As for Leal, he has been playing in the Superliga and has been living in the country for more than 5 years. He is very familiar with the Brazilian culture and fans have so much love for him because of personality and superb volleyball skills.

VOLLEYWOOD VERDICT: He will not be invited to play for the team. Coach Rezende confidently relies on the talents of true Brazilian players. However, anything is possible as Brazil prepares for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics to defend their crown.
