After winning the Volleyball Nations League, Russia became the top favorites to win a medal and even play for gold at the World Championship.
Sadly none of our predictions happened for Mikhaylov and Team.
In the Final 6, Russia almost beat Brazil after winning the first 2 sets but the South Americans were just too much to handle. The next day they were demolished by Matt Anderson & Team USA in straight sets.
After getting eliminated, Russia’s star player Maxim Mikhaylov admits they are disappointed but they’re ready to move on.
“It is obviously a big disappointment to finish the season with such a loss – but we will have to regroup and will start working ahead of the Olympic Games.”
With Europe being the home continent of some of the world’s best teams, it will be very exciting to see how Russia will perform next year which includes the 2020 Olympic Qualification Tournament.
What’s next for Maxim? A couple of weeks off and then join his Russian club team – Zenit Kazan.
