A Heroes Welcome For Tine Urnaut And Slovenia

What an awesome moment for Slovenia!

Tine Urnaut, Klemen Cebulj, Dejan Vincic, Mitja Gasparini and team were welcomed by their loved ones and supporters when they returned home. The EuroVolley history makers were officially welcomed by the mayor of Ljubljana at Congress Square where the crowd cheered for their Volleyball Heroes.

When they arrived at the airport, we’ve learned that Coach Giani got very emotional and started crying when talking to the members of the press.

Then at Congress Square, he delivered a short speech acknowledging the great work his team has done.

“These are really brave boys. Without them, we would not have this success. It was a wonderful experience and it makes me very emotional.”

The highlight of it all would have to be when Mayor Zoran Janković unofficially REVEALED that Slovenia will host the 2019 EuroVolley.

“In 2019, the European championship will be in Slovenia!”

Although CEV has not confirmed the news, it would be great for Slovenia to host it. No doubt it will take the sport of volleyball to the next level!

As we previously reported, Slovenia will NOT play at the European Olympic Qualification in January 2016 because of their current European ranking which is #10. Only the top 8 teams (excluding Italy who has already qualified) get the chance to make their Olympic dreams come true.

But like what we’ve said, Slovenia needs to do well in continental and international tourneys to earn points and be in the Top 8 by 2020.

Before we forget, Mitja Gasparini received this kind of welcome in Izola.

Tako so Ribari Izola sredi mesta pričakali srebrnega junaka Mitjo Gasparinija 🙂 PONOSNI, BRAVO Izola, Slovenia :)) Hvala Katjuša Erhatič za video.
