Netherlands 2013 Roster

Under coach Gido Vermeulen, comes new faces on the Dutch team.

As expected, Manon Flier remains as the top player on this squad joined by veterans Kim Staelens, Debby Stam Pilon and Caroline Wensink. We’re glad that Coach Gido has added some young players as he leads the squad up to the 2016 Olympics, a dream left shattered last year when Netherlands failed to qualify for the London Olympics.

It’s going to be a busy year for Flier and Team. They will compete at the 2013 edition of the FIVB World Grand Prix they won in 2007. Playing in the Grand Prix will for sure help them prepare for the 2013 European Championship.

12 or 14 players will be chosen from this roster to compete in 2013:

Opposite Hitters: Manon Flier (Azerrail Baku), Judith Pietersen (Dresdner SC), Celeste Plak (VV Alterno)

Outside Hitters: Debby Stam-Pilon (Azerrail Baku), Anne Buijs (Schweriner SC), Lonneke Sloetjes (USC Münster), Maret Grothues (Lokomotiv Baku), Angelique Vergeer (VC Weert)

Setters: Kim Staelens (Stiinta Bacau), Laura Dijkema (USC Münster), Femke Stoltenborg (Aurubis Hamburg), Inge Molendijk (Sliedrecht Sport)

Libero: Myrthe Schoot (Dresdner SC), Kirsten Knip (Sliedrecht Sport)

Middle Blockers: Caroline Wensink (Azerrail Baku), Quinta Steenbergen (Schweriner SC), Robin de Kruijf (Dresdner SC), Yvon Beliën (VC Weert)

We really hope that Coach Gido, hired last February 2012, can do and bring wonders to this team. We also pray that another player or two will have what it takes to support Flier when it comes to scoring for points. Manon hasn’t been in good shape as of late.

With veterans and young players, we hope they will fulfill their dream to compete in the Olympics.

Keep the Olympic dream alive girls!
