Lioubov Sokolova is Back!

Oh Really?

Russia’s most experienced players and one of the world’s most complete players has decided to rejoin Russia for the upcoming European Olympic Pre-Qualification Tournament to be held next month from November 8th-13th in Kaliningrad, Russia.

“I am already in good shape for the start of the season. I am only lacking some practice especially as I have been playing only some matches before the start of the national league here in Turkey. However, as far as my physical condition is concerned, everything is alright” says Sokolova.

Glad to hear she’s in great shape. Russia badly needs her after a disappointing European Championship wherein Russia finished 6th. Gamova could not do it alone for the current World Champions. By the way, Sokolova revealed that she was supposed to play at the Euro Champs but last minute issues came up after her last minute decision.

“Yes, before the team left I was contacted by officials of the Russian Volleyball Federation and I said I was ready to join the team and play. However, by that moment some problems for my contract with Fenerbahce had already come up and of course I wanted to solve this situation first, because it is about my life and my own future. Therefore I decided not to go to the European Champs.”

As for the upcoming tournament. “I have to join the team there. I have already spoken with the Federation” according to Sokolova formerly known as Kilic and Chachkova.

Kosheleva is finally in shape to play as well & ready to play, Russia looks stronger and is the top favorite to win the tournament. We can’t wait to see Koshe, Gamova and Sokolova on the court again! The last time the powerful trio played together was at the 2010 World Champs and ended up making Brazil cry winning the tournament.

BUT there’s a problem….

Coach Vladimir Kuzyutkin has resigned after Russia’s poor performance at the European Champs.  After discussing the pros and cons with the Russian Federation, Kuzyutkin decided not to extend his contract. “It is time to go. I can’t yet speak about many things. There are a lot of factors, plus, banally, I am tired.” says Coach Vlad.

Reports say that screaming coach Nikolai Karpol is in line to take over the position he once had for decades.

All we can say is good luck to Russia!
