Kasia Wins Over Glinka

Anna Baranska-Werblinska must be pissed! Just Kidding!

2 time European Champion and one of the world’s best opposite hitters, Kasia Skowronska, has been named as The Best Female Polish Player in 2011 by Siatka.org.

Kasia pretty much dominated the poll by receiving 44.48% way over Glinka’s 19,30% and Milena Radecka 12,50%. Finishing 4th, 5th and 6th are Paulina Maj – 11,15%, Berenika Okuniewska – 8.78% & Karolina Kosek – 3.79%.

In all fairness to Kasia, her return to the National Team last season pretty much became the talk of the town. After leaving the team due to conflict with Coach Matlak – who was eventually fired – she then decided to wear her Polish jersey once again under a new coach at the European Championship. Kasia and Poland failed to finish in the top 4 but showed a bright future with a young squad. Skowronska displayed leadership and consistency throughout the tournament and was pretty much Polska’s main and most effective weapon.

With the Olympic Qualification coming up, we hope to see Skowronska leading the Polish team again. If the volleyball gods have what it takes to convince Glinka to come back then Poland can become a threat to other European teams who are working hard to achieve their dream of playing at the Olympics. We also hope to see Werblinska back!

Anyways, the former star of Fenerbahce is currently playing in China and her team is currently the league’s #1 team with Kasia as one of the top scorers.

Congrats Kasia!

Side Dish: Previous winners of Siatka.Org’s Best Female Player in Poland were 2006 – Anna Barańska, 2007 – Katarzyna Skowrońska-Dolata, 2008 – Katarzyna Skowrońska-Dolata, 2009 – Anna Barańska & 2010 – Anna Werblińska (Barańska).
