Flier Takes A Break

She totally deserves it!

In case you’re wondering where she is now, Manon is currently in her country to watch the ongoing 2012 CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship and of course to support her longtime boyfriend, Reinder Nummerdor. Manon’s man is competing with Richard Schuil and they are one of the top favorites to win the competition.

Queen Flier spent time to be interviewed by CEV and has a few deep thoughts to share.

On failing to qualify for the Olympics:

“We went to Ankara to play our best and I am not too disappointed with the quality of our performance there, especially as the starting field there included some of the best teams in the world”.

She has also decided to skip the 2012 European League so she could take a break.

“Since I am always traveling around and did not have any real break in the past few years, I opted for taking some more time for myself.”

In case you didn’t know, Manon played in Japan this past season and won the V-League with Toray Arrows. The 28 year old opposite hitter was pretty much sidelined due to an injury.

“Japan was a very nice experience, but also a tough one. I was basically all alone being the only foreign player in the group, and even though I was always accompanied by an assistant/translator, who was interpreting for me also during the time-outs, it is not that easy to get acquainted with such a different mentality and culture”.

For this coming pro-season, Flier will play for Azeri club team Azerrail Baku together with her Dutch teammates Debby Stam-Pilon and Caroline Wensink.

We can’t wait to see Manon again in the Champions League!
