China Rehires Jenny Lang Ping

April 25th, 2013

It’s official!

Coach Jenny Lang Ping:

“It’s an honour to become the head coach of the Chinese women’s volleyball team once again after 14 years. The team is currently facing extreme difficulties, but as long as our dreams remain, and that we work together as a team supporting each other, relive the spirit of the golden generation (referring to the 80’s), have determination and faith in ourselves, work hard every day to achieve our goals, strengthen our fundamental skills through scientific training, I hope that, everyone can be patient and allow us time to work hard towards completing the task of the Rio cycle (2016 Olympics).

This decision was not easy at all, and perhaps the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my career as a coach, considering whether my health will allow me to handle the extreme workload. After comprehensive negotiations, our coaching committee and the volleyball association have worked very well in coordinating arrangements, and that our first task would be to form a new team for the coming season.

Since the appointment of coach has left quite late this year, there are a lot of catching up to do.

I have to complete the task of taking Evergrande to compete in the Asian Clubs Championship. I hope that everyone can be understanding and supportive of this. However, my priority is with the National team, the domestic league will start after and national team’s duties are over. Our coaching committee at Evergrande shall take care of the team’s business during my absence, but I will lead Evergrande to compete in the Asian Club Championship. I will assume my post as head coach of NT ASAP once the tournament ends.”

The return of China’s Iron Hammer! J-LANG is Back!

AMAZING NEWS!

The world’s most powerful female volleyball coach has been hired to lead China’s women’s volleyball team from 2013 up to the 2016 Olympic cycle.

The news will be officially announced in the coming days.

From what we’ve been told, the Chinese Volleyball Federation had 4 candidates to choose from and they were Jenny, Mr. Changcheng Liu, Mr. Bin Cai and Mr. Jie Jiang. Each candidate had to present a 60 minute speech to the officials on why he/she should be hired as the new coach.

Obviously, the 52-year old Lang Ping soared high above the other and became the chosen one.

In case you forgot, here’s a brief 411 on JLP:

In 1995, Lang became the head coach of the Chinese national team and eventually guided the squad to the silver medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia and second place at the 1998 World Championships in Japan.[6] Lang Ping resigned from the Chinese national team in 1998 due to health reasons.

In the following year, she took a head coaching position in the Italian professional volleyball league and enjoyed great success there, winning the league championship and the coach of the year award multiple times.

She became the coach of the US National Team in 2005. Lang guided the team to the 2008 Olympics, where the US team faced off with China in her home country. The US team defeated China 3-2. Chinese president Hu Jintao attended the match.[8] The match drew 250 million television viewers in China alone. The team went on to win the silver medal, losing to Brazil in the finals 3-1. Lang resigned from the position in 2008, citing that she wanted to spend more time with her family.

She is the current coach of Chinese club team Evergrande.

With a few veteran players unofficially retiring like Wei Queyue and Ma Yun Wen, we wonder how JLP will develop the experienced and the new players in the new Olympic cycle.

After a disappointing performance at the 2012 Olympics (5th place), we believe that Jenny can resurrect China’s dominance in Asia and against the world’s best teams!

Are you excited?
