Ben Hardy Retires

We can’t imagine the Australian Team without him…

After 17 years & 400 games representing Australia, living legend Benjamin Hardy has decided to rest his volleyball laurels for good.

He has released this statement to Australia’s Volleyball Community:

“I am writing this to the greater volleyball community of Australia to tell them that I am no longer a part of the Australian team.

I have decided not to continue playing volleyball for Australia and abroad. This is not a decision I took lightly as Volleyball has been my life and passion for such a long time. Starting with playing for Australia in 1994 I can say that I have been very lucky to have had such a long career.

Obviously I started playing long before I put on the green and gold but to say goodbye to the Australian jersey is a very difficult thing. I have been very fortunate, traveled the world, met and played with a lot of fantastic people and played for some great clubs.

If I was to write a thank you list it would be enormous. This is not my intention here. I just wanted to inform the greater public of my decision and wish the Australian team all the best in the Olympic qualification.

If Brazil has Giba , then Australia has/had Ben Hardy. Also, American LLoy Ball has exclusively released this statement to Volleywood for Mr. Hardy:

“I’ve known Ben a long time. He’s a good volleyball player and a good man.  He has enriched the volleyball community with his play and dedication. Thanks.”

We’re really sad we won’t get to see him represent Australia as they try to win a spot for the 2012 Olympics but we deeply respect his decision to retire.

We wish you the best Ben!

Thank you to Oz Volley for the report.
