Rosir Calderon Returns!

Awesome! Awesome! The Cuban Federation approved it! Whew!

The Cuban outside hitter will play for Russian club team, Zarechie Odintsovo, next season. The team currently has Brazil’s Walewska Oliveria and Maggie Kozuch from Germany. If these 2  foreign players remain next season and with Calderon joining the mix, then Odintsovo will be a force in the Russian League!

In case you didn’t know, Rosir took a couple of years off after the 2008 Olympics to focus on motherhood and she gave birth last year. She tried to return to the team a few months before the 2010 World Championship but was not physically ready and had to stay in Cuba. Her father, Luis Felipe Calderon, was member of Cuba’s coaching staff for so many years died of cancer in 2009. He was 55.

Rosir was the Best Spiker at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2006 World Championship & 2005 World Grand Prix just to name a few.

Rosir has been through a lot and we’re super happy to hear and share this news!

We still hope she returns to the National Team. Rosir and Kenia Carcases will be pounding balls left and right. Exciting!

Welcome Back Rosir!
