Elena Godina Retires

She was one of the deadliest spikers Coach Nikolai Karpol ever produced in the late 90s. Godina was a powerful force that the mighty Cubans failed to neutralize at the 1997 World Grand Prix. The player who had a fabulous time blocking Brazil at the 1999 Grand Prix gold medal match. She was also the outside hitter who became one of the most effective jump servers in the last decade.

Last October 8th at the opening night of the 2011/ 2012 Russian Super League, Elena officially bid goodbye to the sport she loved and embraced since 1991.
