Leonardo Leyva Martinez Makes History

UPDATE: We were able to contact Leonardo while he’s about to board his flight to Qatar and he has this short message for everyone:

Cuban player makes history on April 21st, 2013!

In a club match called “Top Match” between his Korean club team & league champion, Samsung Blue Fangs, and Japanese league champion, Osaka Blazers Sakai, the 23 year old Leonardo Leyva Martinez scored a record breaking 59 points (57 points in attack with a 64% efficiency , 1 block and 1 ace).

Samsung lost in 5 (25-27, 25-20, 19-25, 25-21, 13-15).

Despite the defeat, Leyva’s performance was enough to take the “World’s Best Scorer In One Match” title away from Canadian Gavin Schmitt.
