Trentino Volley (ITA) vs Dinamo Moscow (RUS)

Match #1: Trentino lost the first match while visiting the Russian squad. Poland’s Bartosz Kurek was in top form to help his team win an epic 5 set match (25-21, 25-23, 20-25, 17-25, and 15-12) in front of 3,000+ Russian fans.

“I am very proud of my guys who could beat the best team in the world tonight. I think that only a few people could believe in our chances to score a win tonight. All players did a superb job and this is a well-deserved win. The rival remains strong and we are expecting a tough match next week in Italy as we are only halfway through.” -Dinamo Moscow’s Coach Cherednik.

If you’re a Kurek fan, then you’re going to love him even more. In case you didn’t know, Bartek has been missing a lot of matches to an ankle injury. Some thought he won’t recover in time to finish the season but looks like Dinamo Moscow knew how to get their highest paid player back in the game. Also, Dinamo Moscow’s Pavel Krugov was almost unstoppable and was the best scorer of the match with 27 points.

Despite losing a heartbreaking match, Trentino’s “Fantastic 4” namely Mitar Djuric, Jan Stokr, Matey Kaziyski and Osmany Juantorena scored double digits. The 3 time winners of the Champions League was of course led by the great Brazilian setter, Raphael.

Match #2: Playing in front of their supporters inspired the players of Trentino to play one of their best matches this season. They defeated the Russian squad in straight sets (25-17, 25-18, and 25-12) BUT eventually lost the crucial golden set (12-15) to miss the Final 4 for the very first time in 4 years.

“We knew that the golden set was very risky, and finally our concerns turned into reality. The golden set is simply a matter of luck but I have to say that this good luck needs to be somehow generated; it does not come by waiting for the mistakes of your opponents. Dinamo MOSCOW deserved the victory as they were better than us and played more intelligently. We have to accept that and keep going for the remainder of the seaso.n” -Trentino’s Coach Radostin Stoytchev.

Dinamo’s Pavel Kruglov was in top form again to lead his team to win the very crucial golden set. For the first time in a long time, Trentino tasted a sour defeat which ended their Champions League journey. Kaziyski, Juantorena and Team Trentino will now set their focus on claiming the Italian League.
