Updated: FIVB Shuts Carrillo

January 4th Update: The FIVB did NOT approve Carrillo’s request to play in the Brazilian League so her club team has replaced her with American Danielle Scott-Arruda – who is married to a Brazilian and very much a popular face in the Superliga. The 39 year old has played in Brazil for 6 seasons.

We’re so bummed for Nancy! She won’t get to play until March but BMG could not wait. We wonder what the REASON is for the FIVB not to approve her transfer. What is she going to do now? She should just go back to the Cuban National Team – if possible. Why not right?

On the other hand, we hope the Cuban Federation has nothing to do with the FIVB’s decision.

UGH!

***

She never really left volleyball, she just retired from the Cuban team 2 years ago (?).

After years of absence, Cuban middle blocker and 2 time Olympian, Nancy Carrillo, is finally back on the volleyball court! The world’s best player in 2007 has signed on to play for Brazilian club team, BMG/São Bernardo. Nancy is not the only Cuban playing in one of the world’s top professional leagues. Former setter/hitter and Piccinini’s best friend Daimi Ramirez & Herrera.

We really don’t know why she left the Cuban Team 2  years ago. We really wanted her to stay since she was becoming the world’s best player at that time. Plus, she could’ve put her name together with her successors, Regla Torres and Magalys Carvajal, as the world’s top middle blockers.

Anyways, watch this video of Nancy.

From what we’ve been informed about this video, Nancy reveals that once you stop playing for the National Team you can’t play for another country or play in professional leagues for 2 years. She also mentions that during the 2 years she was away, she worked a drugstore and gained 25 kilos. (Thanks Raquel!)

Can anyone PLEASE translate in English what she’s saying? =)

If she still has the POWER she’s known for, then we’d love to see her back on the National Team but we doubt it! Most Cuban players who becomes pros, never return. Best Wishes Mija!
