Gatineau

We want to go to Gatineau! Take us! Take us!

In case you didn’t know, Gatineau is hosting the 2011 Men’s Pan American Cup from June 4th-13th, 2011. We’ve been to Vancouver and Ottawa and we love these cities! Canadian cities are amazing! Hopefully, we get to visit and discover the treasures of Gatineau and at the same time witness one of the most exciting volleyball events in the Americas. But for now Wikitravel provides this information about the city…

Volleywood’s Volley Jet Ride presents…

Wikitravel says…

Gatineau, Canada is a city in the Outaouais region of Quebec, Canada, located just across the Ottawa River from Canada’s capital, Ottawa. With more than 200,000 inhabitants, it is the city resulting from the amalgamation of the older cities of Gatineau, Hull, Aylmer, Masson-Anger and Buckingham in the province of Québec. Its size means that it offers the services and entertainment found in a larger city without being one. One can find quiet corners without having to necessarily endure rush-hour evenings and mornings. The whole area is located across the city of Ottawa, with thousands crossing the river every day to work. However, downtown Hull also has some government offices, and many people cross the other way to work there. Gatineau is part of what you call the National Capital Region.

When we go to places, the very first thing we take into consideration is our safety. The good thing is Gatineau has a very low crime rate (so there’s a low police presence). Well as long as we mind our own business and stay out of trouble, we should be okay. You can do the same if you visit. Safety is important!

Some TOURIST SPOTS in the city:

  • Canadian Museum of Civilization (which is Canada’s most visited museum and you might have to spend a few hours here)
  • Grand Hall, Level 1 (it has the world’s largest collection of totem poles)
  • Canada Hall, Level 3 (presents the history of Canada in different ways like recreations of towns and villages)

Explore!

  • Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival in September. (We want to try this!)
  • Hull-Chelsea-Wakefield Steam Train
  • Fête nationale du Québec (The cit’s biggest party!)

Drink This Eat That!

There’s a lot French restaurants in the city like Le Panaché (If you want to splurge!) or you can try La Piz’za-za (Mid-range). As far as hotels, you can just go to any travel websites to find the best deals. For more choices on restaurants, hotels and the nightlife, click THIS.
