Two-time defending Olympic champions & 3 Time World Champions Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh aka MistyKer suffered a shocking defeat against their American compatriots Angie Akers and Nicole Branagh (19-21, 21-17, 13-15). MistyKer are the #5 seeded while BraKers are ranked #12.
It was indeed an epic battle!
“I was very sad this morning, frustrated, because we had chances but we made silly mistakes. As a team they were playing well.” said Kerri. “(On whether she was affected by the knee injury) It’s OK, just mistakes by us. It’s the first match of the day, maybe we were a little bit tentative. So we want to turn around and come back.” Misty added on their loss..
MistyKer defeated Candelas-Garcia of Mexico earlier and they now have a 1-1 record with 1 more match to go against the Spanish team of Liliana & Baquerizo.
In case you didn’t know, Walsh and Branagh were supposed to play together this season but the plan was dissolved when Misty May texted Kerri and invited her to play together again. Of course Kerri said yes while Nicole Branagh looked for a new partner and luckily found Angie Akers.
