Here’s a short interview featuring American beach volleyball player Casey “BOOM” Patterson.

What’s special about the FIVB Tour coming to California and why should fans attend?

Well the fact that we haven’t had a FIVB tournament in the US for about 10 years should be the only thing I should have to say about it being special. A couple other special things in case that was not enough: The best beach volleyball players on the planet will be there, and I hoping the greatest announcer in beach volleyball history “Geeter!!!” will grace us with his presence.

As an American athlete, how important is this tournament on US soil for you personally and professionally?

Personally a FIVB tournament in the US is amazing. Family, friends, the best fans in the world will be able to watch world tour beach volleyball. And best of all… in the state where the game was created.

Professionally its a huge advantage to play in the US. A chance to show our sponsors and future sponsors what world tour volleyball looks like. I know it will also create a huge awareness to those who don’t understand the level of the FIVB. I think it will create a bigger fan base, support system and appreciation for those representing the USA as athletes.

What is different about playing in the FIVB as compared with domestic tours, level of play, fan support, prize money?

World tour is very different than anything I have seen in the US. It is much more structured and intricate. Tours here in the US are much more fun, exciting, and embrace the lifestyle of beach volleyball.

Whats the most memorable bvb moment so far this season?

The most memorable moment so.far this season along with my career was winning the first grand slam of the year in Shanghai. Having that grand slam gold medal around my neck while they played the national anthem was amazing. I was very emotional because I had dreamed of that moment for as long as I could remember.

Whats the most interesting fact we should know about your partner?

The most interesting fact about Jake Gibb that you should know besides his ability to block everything but the sun is that he is probably the craftiest veteran on tour. Not on the court but off. Jake can get us past any security, get us our hotel room and upgraded at no cost, knows all the tricks to traveling and the tour. It is so fun to watch him work his magic. I have to really focus on not laughing or ruining his focus. It is really entertaining.

In the BVB world you’re known as the Casey “Boom” Patterson, name 5 things in life that make you go boom aside from beach volleyball.

Boom! 5 things that make me go boom aside from bvb? Ha ha!

1. My wife Lexi and my 2 boys Cash and Guy. They have matching Suave Hawks and its awesome.
2. Competing at any sport or game. I love to compete and probably too much.
3. Music!! I love music. I would say having DJ Rouche killing it as the dj for tournaments. Keeps me ready for battle at all times.
4. Coaching volleyball and seeing a kid finally get it. Figuring out that one skill the takes them to the next level. I love helping others keep the passion I have for volleyball.
5. It has to be being able to travel the world for my job. I get to see so many awesome places. Most of all being able to represent in the LBC for USA this summer.

Awwwww how sweet!

We wish Casey and Jake the best this season and the seasons to come!
