No No No No!

How could you do this to us King Ivan?

One of the world’s most prolific and best volleyball players, Ivan Miljkovic, has OFFICIALLY RETIRED from the Serbian National Team after 14 years. With 288 matches, the 2000 Olympic gold medalist says that it’s about time for the young players to get the opportunity to represent Serbia.

Ivan’s Statement:

My family is my priority and more important than playing for the national team now. It’s definitely the end. The last point, which I scored for my team was in during the 2011 World Cup match against Team USA. I gave everything & my best for Serbia. I tried to help my team the best way I could. I think, that I have done a lot of good things for Serbian Volleyball because on the results during my career. But now it’s a time that I have to devote myself doing other things, not volleyball. My dream is to give & guide the young players with my experience and knowledge. I want to be their role model to follow. I believe that we will see the birth of a new generation of great Serbian players.

Great words King Ivan.

On the other hand, Serbia’s coach Igor Kolakovic isn’t surprised of Miljkovic’s decision. He said that they spoke last February and that he tried to change his mind but failed to convince the 3 time Olympian and 2 time European Champion. After all the great years wearing the #14 jersey for Serbia, “Ivan deserves the most respect” according to the coach who will now rely on a new crop of young players as they try to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games.

No words could express how sad we are upon hearing this news.

We totally respect Ivan’s decision and we wish Team Serbia the best.
