Canada Wins Last Spot!

We can’t remember the last time Canada played in the World League but…

Over the weekend, Freddie Winters, Gavin Schmitt and the Canadian team proved too much to handle against Puerto Rico at the 2012 World League Qualifier held in Kingston, Canada. We must say that Canada played 2 of their best volleyball matches since defeating Serbia at the 2010 World Championship. On the other hand, P-Rico played without superstar Hector Soto.

Canada’s Coach Hoag said after the match…

“This is a very big step for our program. World League means a lot of big matches, and that’s very important for our very young team. This is a group that we started in 2007, and it’s still growing and maturing. This will be a great test for our young guys. We will need to stay healthy. Our focus is now turned to the NORCECA Championships next week.”

Our bb Freddie Winters also shared some words…

“I’m really happy with this win. We had a big opportunity with Puerto Rico missing 2 starters, and we took advantage of it. We get another chance at World League, which is great for us because we have a better team then we had 4 years ago. This is very exciting for us.”

Results with stats below:

Gavin Schmitt‘s performance really helped Canada especially in the first match with 30 points and of course his teammates were there to support him. We’re really happy they’d play in the World League next year. Puerto Rico played a very forgettable World League this year. It’s great to see another good team like Canada representing NORCECA together with Cuba and USA.

Anyways, here are some more pics.

Congrats Canada!

Please try to promise us that you guys will play your best next year!
