Ze Roberto Cuts Fabiola

S H O C K I N G!

Out of the 3 setters on his list, Coach Ze Roberto Guimaraes has finally decided the 2 he’d be taking to London. The duo who will play the role as setters for the defending Olympic champions are Dani Lins and Fernandinha which means that Fabiola is OUT of the Olympic roster.

In all honesty, we really thought that Dani Lins would get cut. As for the newcomer yet very experienced Fernandinha, she performed well at the recently concluded Grand Prix with Brazil winning the silver medal for the 3rd consecutive year.

“Actually it was a little surprising. I’m kinda relieved, but a little sad too because fabiola is not going. We cried because fabiola is very dear and it was a little surprising. When a player is cut from the team is never easy, but Zé Roberto knows what he’s doing and what’s best for the team.” says Dani Lins in a statement released by Uol.com.

“I leave the GP with lots of expectations for the Olympics. I think Zé Roberto will have some trouble. I got some ‘jogadas’ right, but the team’s harmony needs to improve. Even so a lot of thing are already good.” according to the 32 year old Fernandinha.

Since the retirement of Fofao, Coach Roberto hasn’t really found the ideal setter for his team.

Dani Lins was expected to lead yet she has never really shined for Brazil. Fabiola was instrumental during the 2010 season and led Brazil to a silver medal finish at the World Championship. As for Fernandinha, she blends well with the team. She definitely has the hands to set for Brazil but the problem is she just joined the team this year. Will Ze Roberto have enough time to train Fernandinha’s connections and setting choices with Brazil’s struggling hitters? Let’s wait and see.

Also, 2 more players will be cut from this list sometime this week.

Dani Lins, Fernandinha

Sheilla, Mari, Tandara

Paula Pequeno, Jaqueline, Fernanda Garay, Natália

Fabiana, Thaísa, Adenízia

Camila Brait, Fabi

We have a feeling Natalia and Camila Brait will be cut and the rest will represent Brazil in London.

Stay tuned for more updates including Brazil’s Final Olympic Roster.
