Turkey’s Olympic Roster

One of the teams to watch out for in London is TURKEY!

Since finishing 6th at the 2010 World Championship and winning the bronze medal at the 2011 European Championship, Turkey continues to play better and stronger volleyball in the last couple of years. They’re peaking at the right time so it’s no wonder they won the European Olympic Qualification in front of their home crowd a few months ago and then finished 3rd at this year’s Grand Prix.

Momentum is on their side BUT it won’t be an easy Preliminary Round for Coach Motta’s squad. They will play against Olympic gold medal favorite USA, defending champion Brazil, 2011 European Champion Serbia, Korea and 2008 Olympic bronze medalist China.

The following 12 players will represent Turkey at the 2012 London Olympics:

Setters: Naz Aydemir, Ozge Cemberci
Opposite Hitters: Neslihan Darnel, Polen Uslupehlivan
Outside Hitters: Gozde Sonsirma, Esra Gumus, Neriman Ozsoy
Middle Blockers: Bahar Toksoy, Eda Erdem, Busra Cansu
Libero: Gulden Kuzubasioglu, Gizem Guresen

Coach Motta is bringing 2 liberos just like teams from Italy and USA.

The volleyball world expects Neslihan Darnel to carry her team against the world’s best teams but let’s not forget her other talented teammates. The powerful Neriman Ozsoy, their 2 middles Eda Erdem and Ozsoy and of course the brightest setter of the new decade Naz Aydemir.

We believe Turkey is dark horse in London so watch out world!
