Australia’s Olympic Roster

We’re so excited to see the Aussies in London!

Let’s all face it, no one would’ve expected they’d qualify for London. Iran was the TOP favorite yet Igor Yudin and Team Australia under coach Uriarte totally ruined Iran’s opportunity. Coach Velasco’s squad might have underestimated the Aussies during the World Olympic Qualification in Japan and lost in 4 sets.

Anyways, Yudin and Team are busy preparing for London.

Watch This:

“Everyone was in shock. We didn’t expect it to happen like that. We expected a hard slog, but it was surreal, unbelievable. It’s something off this planet to actually know we’re going and we’ve got something to work for.” according to Thomas Edgar, the 2nd best scorer in Japan.

In case you didn’t know, this is the second time Australia has qualified for the Olympics. They competed during the 2004 Olympics in Athens and a direct qualification as the hosting team back in 2000. With a new coach from Argentina, Jon Uriarte, the 2007 Asian Champions have what it takes to compete against the world’s best teams in their Pool namely host Great Britain, Italy, Poland, Argentina and Bulgaria.

“At Athens, the atmosphere was that it was the achieving point just to go to the Olympics. But it is not at all this time. Honestly, you can see day by day some little improvement. We want to crash many parties – that’s our challenge.” per Coach Uriarte who used to coach Argentina.

Without further ado, we proudly present to you Australia’s Magic 12:

Travis Passier
Thomas Edgar
Harrison Peacock
Nathan Roberts
Andrew Grant
Luke Smith

Greg Sukochev
Aden Tutton
Adam White
Lincoln Williams
Igor Yudin
Aidan Zingel

“We’re not really scared of anything.” -Thomas Edgar.

That’s a fierce and brave approach BB. You guys don’t need to be scared of any team in London. You and your team have what it takes to cause some upsets. One favor though, please please please play as hard as you can and play together no matter what it takes to make it to the Quarterfinal Round at least and NOT finished in the bottom 4 like in Athens and Sydney.

Make ASIA proud!
