Alekno Cuts Berezhko’s Wings

We are so SADDDDDDDDDDDDDD!

Russian eye candy outside hitter, Yury Berezhko, might be spending a lot of his time at a pub somewhere in Moscow after finding out that he will not be playing at the upcoming World Cup. Coach Alekno has revealed the 14 players that he will take to Japan and sadly Yury is not on the list.

Honestly, if looks can score points then Yury deserves to be on the final roster. Hahahaha! We kid! We kid! Seriously, Yury hasn’t been in the best of shape. We can’t even remember the last time he played some great volleyball. It has been so long that we totally agree Alekno’s decision not to take him.

Being the Wild Card winner, Russia has a lot to prove at the World Cup. They won the 2011 World League then lost a heartbreaking semifinal match against Serbia at the 2011 European Championship. Anyways, it’s a totally different story now. Russia has what it takes to finish in the Top 3 to qualify for the 2012 Olympics (unless they CHOKE again which is a very common trait of the Russian team).

Russia’s Final World Cup Roster:

Setter: Makarov, Butko
Middle Blockers: Muserskiy, Volkov, Abrosimov, Apalikov
Outside Hitters: Khtey, Biryukov, Tetyukhin
Opposite Hitters: Mikhaylov, Kruglov, Yakovlev
Liberos: Sokolov, Obmochaev

By the way, we’re so happy to see veterans Tetyukhin and Yakovlev back on the team. Their leadership and experience will surely help their team when the young guns start to choke. The only problem for Russia is that their starting setter Sergey Grankin in injured.

As for Yury, it’s ok BB. You can watch the matches LIVE on fromsport.com. Just Kidding!

Do You Think Russia Will Finish in the Top 3 at the World Cup?
