What a night to remember for the 2 time Olympic Champion!
The Brazilian opposite experienced once of the most unforgettable moments of her career last night at the Teatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro when she was honored as Brazil”s Female Athlete Of The Year.
The smile on Sheilla’s face is indescribable!

“Estou muito feliz de ter ganhado esse prêmio. Tinha duas meninas competindo comigo muito fortes. Eu queria compartilhar com todas as meninas da seleção porque esse é um esporte coletivo e eu não teria ganho se não fosse por elas. Quero agradecer ao público e dedicar o prêmio a minha avó.”
In translation, she dedicates the award to her teammates and to one of the most special people in Sheilla’s life, her grandmother.
It was also a star studded event with current, former and Olympic medalists gracing the occasion.
Leila Barros (1996 and 2000 Olympic bronze medalist) with husband Emanuel Rego (2012 Olympic silver medalist, a dateless Alison Cerutti (2012 Olympic silver medalist), Sheilla’s 2012 Olympic teammates Fernanday Garay and Adenizia just to name a few.
The other big winner last night was Coach Ze Roberto Guimaraes who was named as Brazil’s Coach Of The Year. With 3 Olympic titles under his belt (1992, 2008 & 2012), he’s the most deserving coach out there for such honor.
By the way, Ze spoke briefly on Mari and he said that he still welcomes her to rejoin the National Team despite the dissatisfaction that Mari has stated to the media more than a month ago.
Awwwwww how nice of Ze to say that.
Time heals.
