Coach Guimaraes Stays

Great news for Brazilian volleyball fans but certainly a bad news for MARI!

The 58 year old coach has officially signed on to lead Brazil to its 3rd consecutive Olympic gold medal journey in front of their fans 4 years from now. With 3 Olympic gold medals under his belt, no doubt that the possibility to win gold at the Rio De Janeiro Olympics is very high. As long as everyone can deal with the pressure, then let it be!

Coach Ze has released this statement:

“I am very happy to stay for another four years, although there is a huge responsibility to perform well in the Olympics that Brazil will host for the first time in history. I’ve always desired to continue this work. I’ll do my best while I have this desire and am proud to have this opportunity to uphold my country’s name.

My family always gave me the force to make this happen. For me, it is essential to have them by my side, because my wife and daughter know how difficult is. There will be four more years of hard work and absences. I would be impossible to do it without the support they give me.”

We’re happy he’s staying but the question now is how will he rebuild or continue his journey with the women’s team. Will he retain some of his precious veterans like Sheilla, Thaisa, Jaque and Fabiana? Or will he focus more on the new generation of Brazilian talents like Fe Garay, Natalia and Camila Brait?

We just have to wait and see. From what we’ve been told, Paula Pequeno has no intentions of playing for the National Team after London because she felt that Coach Ze did NOT use her enough. On the other hand, Thaisa and her twins plans to play until the quadrennial event.
