Matt Anderson Joins Modena For Next Season

The rumors were true after all.

A few days ago, Olympic bronze medalist and one of the world’s best players, Matt Anderson, announced on his Instagram that he will play with Modena Volley in Italy next season. He also revealed the news that other American players Max Holt and Micah Christenson are staying in Modena for another season.

Matt is NOT the only volleyball superstar on the team. He will be joined by the great Ivan Zaytsev who will play his second season with Modena.

The post has generated more than 54,000 likes as of press time.

In case you didn’t know, Matt played for Modena during the 2011-2012 season. After a short stint in Italy, he joined Zenit Kazan in Russia aka one of the most successful club teams in the world. He has played for Zenit for 7 seasons and has won 5 Champions League gold medals and 1 FIVB Club World Championship crown.

Matt will play his final major tournament with Zenit next month at the CEV Champions League gold medal match against Italian club team Lube Volley. If Zenit wins, Matt will have one of the most successful volleyball players to have 6 Champions League gold medals.

This is a great move by Matt to play with setter Micah Christenson prior to the Olympics. The level in the Italian League has increased tremendously in the last few seasons with the presence of world class players like Wilfredo Leon, Aleksandar Atanasijevic & Robertlandy Simon.
