Per FIVB:

Veteran middle blocker Annerys Vargas, who enjoyed a consistent season while representing the Dominican Republic at several international events, including the FIVB World Grand Prix, has been named her country’s Player of the Year.

The selection of Vargas, who is currently playing for Baki-Azeryol in the Azerbaijan Super League, was announced by the Women’s Program of the Dominican Volleyball National Federation on Monday.

Vargas, 32, and listed at 1.94 meters tall, played internationally in Puerto Rico, Spain, Turkey and Brazil before signing to play this year in Azerbaijan.

Meanwhile, two other players were also recognized at the end of the year following very productive seasons.

Middle blocker Marianne Fersola, who won a starting-six role in the senior team in 2013, was selected as the Revelation of the Year, while Brayelin Martinez, as the Most Improved Player.

Fersola, who turns 22 on January 16, represented the Dominican Republic at the FIVB U23 Women’s World Championship where her team won a silver medal, and played also for the senior team at the Montreux Volley Masters, the Grand Prix, the Pan American Cup, the NORCECA Championship and the Grand Champions Cup.

She is in her first year with Igtisadchi Baku in Azerbaijan after stints with CAV Murcia in Spain and Universidad Cesar Vallejo in Peru.

The outside hitter Martinez, who is only 17, was among the scoring leaders in three age-group world championships in 2013.

The 2.00-meter tall Martinez was the co-leader in scoring at the U20 World Championship in Czech Republic while finishing third and fourth at the U23 and U18, respectively, in Tijuana (Mexico) and Thailand.
