The Return of Malgorzata Glinka?

November 30th, 2013

After 3 years, Glinka is BACK and will compete at the 2014 World Champs Qualification Tournament early next year.

“Yes, I am coming back to the squad. I definitely expect that we qualify for the World Championship, I can not imagine otherwise. We will work hard to achieve it.”

Glinka speaks and releases this statement via siatka.org:

“For now, I am not saying either yes or no.

If I really come back, I would play only on this event. There is no question to actually return for good. That step has already been completed. But, I don’t want that the public feel I am the savior and that I guarantee Poland a promotion to the World Championship. I just can’t take responsibility for that. My job would be to help young players. Don’t expect miracles from me. We will see about the final decision. I will talk with my family first.”

She’s absolutely right! Her presence is not to be the team’s scoring machine but to lead the new crop of players.

Just like her good friend Sokolova who has rejoined the Russian Team, it’d be great to see another legend like Glinka representing her country for the last time again!

Thoughts?

Regardless of her age, she is still one of Poland’s best players!

Since winning the European Championship in 2003 and 2005 & qualifying for the 2008 Olympics, Poland’s women’s volleyball team has not won any international and continental medals at all. Such a pretty bad news for a country known as the Volleyball Capital in Europe and home of some of the world’s best fans.

With the 2014 World Championship coming up and Poland still needing to qualify, President of the Polish Federation, Mirosław Przedpełski, has revealed that he has indeed talked and invite the 35 year old to help the team make it to Italy for the quadrennial event.

“I think that our team will be composed of the best players. All hands are on deck and everyone should play in national team. I asked Glinka-Mogentale for help, I think she can play in the qualifying tournament.

Glinka, who is currently playing in the Polish League for Chemik Police, has not confirmed nor denied the news. If she rejoins the team together with Anna Baranska Werblinska and Kasia Skowronska, then no doubt Poland’s chances of winning is higher.

Glinka retired from the National Team in 2010 after the World Championship where Poland finished 9th.
