Paola Egonu Makes World Championship History

She is only 19 YEARS OLD!!!

Italian opposite hitter Paola Egonu has made World Championship history after scoring 45 points last night in Italy’s semifinal match against China. She is now the world record holder for scoring the most points in 1 match. The previous holder was Kazakhstan’s Yelena Pavlova who scored 40 pts against USA at the 2006 edition.

Paola’s stats from last night: 39/88 spikes (44.3% efficiency) + 1 block + 5 aces.

The young scoring machine showed signs of exhaustion last night in the 5th set but managed to stay strong for her team. Paola also scored the match point after digging a ball from China’s Gong.

Paola and Italy will play against their European rivals from Serbia tonight for the World Championship Crown. This is Italy’s second appearance in the final match since 2002 while it will be the first time for Serbia. Fans are very excited to see the scoring showdown between the following players:
