RIP Ingrid Visser & Lodewijk

August 19th, 2013

From nltimes.nl:

There is sufficient evidence to assume that Evedasto Lifante, the former owner of Murcia volleyball club CAV, has played a role in the murder of volleyball star Ingrid Visser and her partner Louis Severein.

This was announced by the court in Molina de Segura on Wednesday. The two Dutch were probably killed on May 14, in a remote villa in the vicinity of the southern Spanish city.
Lifante, the former employer of professional volleyball star Ingrid Visser, was last Thursday summoned for questioning by the investigating judge Olga Reverte. Lifante was put provisionally at liberty, although the judge saw sufficient evidence to hold him responsible for the killings.

Marble quarry

The evidence against Lifante will include a police report. It states that he owed some 40,000 euro of salary to Visser. The right hand of Lifante, club manager and main suspect in the case, Juan Cuenca, had in the months prior to the murders worked with Severein to sell a marble quarry of Lifante. The police found also photos of Lifante and documentation on the marble quarry in the house of Valentin Ion, one of the two Romanians who are detained for their alleged part in the crime as an assassin.

Telephone bugged

The police has also overheard a telephone conversation between Cuenca and a woman who is suspected of complicity. To this woman, Cuenca says during the call, that there is a third person part of the game, someone who is responsible for the situation and is capable of anything. The researchers think that Cuenca refers to Lifante.

So far there are four suspects in custody. Cuenca the Romanians Ion and Constantin Stan and, since July 12, also Serafín de Alba. The last one is the owner of the lemon orchard where the bodies of Visser and Severein were found buried on May 26.

To honor the request of their loved ones, Volleywood will no longer post updates on the deaths of Ingrid Visser & Lodejwik.

From their loved ones:

The family of Ingrid Visser and Lodewijk Severein asks to be left in peace and requests some restraint regarding media coverage.

Since early this morning, the family of the murdered Ingrid Visser and Lodewijk Severein is being confronted with reports regarding the the death of the two, containing gruesome details. Yet, the family has not yet been informed by the authorities about any of the mentioned details.

It is incomprehensible for the families that the press got a hold of these specifics sooner then the family itself. The way certain media seem to feel the need to report about these details is perceived as very shocking and almost unbearable to the family.

The family feels supported by the reaction of many people at home and abroad, via email, phone and social media, in which they have expressed their utmost disgust about the contributions of certain media.

The family is very grateful for the commitment and interest that the media has shown during the days when the family was still looking for Ingrid and Lodewijk and is aware of the fact that broadcasting news is inevitable. In addition, the family also realizes that only parts of the media felt the need to publish these specific details. For now, the family requests the media, to do there work with respect to the family and loved ones and asks them to be reticent where possible to prevent unnecessary suffering for relatives, friends and all others associated with them.

The family wishes to process their loss in peace and requests everyone to take that into consideration.

“The murder of Ingrid and Lodewijk is first of all an incredible drama for their family, friends and other loved ones. That a lot of their friends and relations are part of the Volleyball community is of minor importance. Our thoughts and compassion mainly go out to the ones that were close to them.” -Michel Everaert, Director of Sports of the Dutch Volleyball Federation (Nevobo).

“Ingrid was one of the key players of the Dutch women’s Volleyball team. From 1994 up to last year Ingrid totalled 514 caps, an incredible number. In 2007 I had the honour to award her our golden federation pin for her record status as an international. That her young life and Lodewijk’s have been cut short so tragically is incredibly sad and shocking. Our sympathy goes out to their families, friends and everybody that loved them.” -Nevobo president Hans Nieukerke.

“We could always count on Ingrid, 100%. Even in times the national team did not perform very well, she stayed true. For a long period of time, Ingrid was a certainty for the Dutch team, one of the known faces, something we highly appreciated. With the loss of Ingrid, we lose one of the biggest, most dedicated Dutch internationals ever.” -Former head coach of the Netherlands and now technical manager of the Federation, Bert Goedkoop.

Were they kidnapped? After almost 2 weeks, Murcia Police still has no concrete reports on how they disappeared.

Ingrid’s ex husband, Rico Guimaraes, has talked to the media and revealed that Ingrid and husband might be victims of kidnapping planned by someone or people they have conflict with which includes Lodewijk’s business partners.

He also mentioned that there is no way the couple opted to disappear “voluntarily” and Ingrid’s former volleyball club team, Murcia, has not paid her at all.

However, Spanish Police debunk any of these reports.

On the other hand, their loved ones have arrived in Murcia and have started a campaign to help them find Ingrid and Lodewijk. They have also asked the help of the public to help them hang posters all over the city.

Here’s the press release:

Help wanted…

The family realizes they need a lot of help from others to accomplish their goal. The family therefor wants to ask for help of anyone, national and international, able to come to Murcia to come and join them in this our of need. They understand that not everyone will be in a position to come. All support is welcome at this time.
