Germany’s Max Günthör Retires At The Age Of 29

We’re quite shocked but at the same time we are happy for Max and the new adventures in his life outside volleyball.

The German middle blocker who just won the German League with his club team VfB Friedrichshafen announces that he is retiring from volleyball.

At 29, it’s an early age to retire BUT Max shares that he plans on taking a different career path.

Per Max:

“I played at the Olympics, European Championship and World League. I won the bronze medal at World Championship and I won Champions league in 2007.

I’m very happy with the achievements during my career.

Now, I’m looking for new challenges. I will move to the computer industry.

I won’t be head coach, that’s for sure.

Probably, I’ll be back to the sport business one day.”

Max has represented Germany in more than 160 matches.

We wish you the BEST Max!

Here’s to your new adventures!

Per FIVB:

The 29 year old Max Günthör is one of the most successful German players: threefold German Champion, seven times Cup Winner, Champions League winner, bronze medal at the Junior’s European Championship 2004 as well as the title “best blocker” at the Olympics 2012 in London are already his. The 2.07 m tall middle blocker has immensely developed throughout the last years and will now be playing as a regular. His personal excellence is blocking.
