20 nominees and only 1 winner?
The Polish outside hitter has been nominated for a very prestigious award, the 2012 Sportsman of the Year Award. He’s up against 19 other Polish athletes. Despite an unsuccessful campaign at the 2012 Olympics where Bartek and Polska finished a disappointing 5th after winning the 2012 World League, the organizers have these words to say:
“In July 2012 Kurek lead the guys in white and red jerseys to their first World League triumph in history. He scored 60 points all alone in the four matches played during the finals in Sofia and delivered a great performance as Poland played Team USA in the gold medal match. The Olympic champions from Beijing 2008 could simply not stand his serves and attacks and the 24-year old Kurek was eventually awarded as MVP of the finals.”
Win or lose, Kurek will forever be A WINNER to us!
The winner will be announced on January 5th, 2013 Teatr Polski in Warsaw.
