Thai Players Get The Spotlight

The more they smile, the more successful they become.

Thailand’s women’s volleyball team was welcomed like celebrities when they arrived in Bangkok last Monday after a very successful performance at the recently concluded 2011 World Grand Prix. In case you didn’t know, Thailand qualified for the Final Round and finished 6th out of 16 teams.

As soon as they arrived at the Suvarnabhumi Airport, Nootsara, Onuma, Kanthong, Pleumjit, Apinyapong and the rest of their teammates were welcomed by flashing cameras, drums and gongs to their surprise. Hundreds of fans also cheered for the current Asian Champions & took photos with their favorite players. After a TV station aired their arrival, they received numerous invitations to appear on various TV shows which they gladly accepted.

This is really awesome! They totally deserved the attention and media exposure.

So what’s next for the Thai Team?

They will now prepare for the 2010 Asian Championship from September 15th – 23rd, 2011 wherein they will try to defend their crown against their rivals Japan, Kore and China to be hosted by Taiwan. We have a feeling Japan and Thailand will fight for the crown but Korea can be the dark horse of the tournament.

Congratulations Thailand!

Side Dish: Thailand’s best Grand Prix performance so far was at the 2011 edition. They made their Grand Prix debut in 2002 and finished 8th.

We wish Team USA received the same media attention knowing they won the Grand Prix twice in a row.

Just Saying.
