Dubai Is Ready To Host!

Well, well, well, look what we have here…

If Doha, Qatar has successfully hosted the FIVB Club World Champs for the last 2 years, well Dubai wants the world the know they can do it! One of the most beautiful cities in the United Arab Emirates has sealed the deal with the Asian Volleyball Federation to host the 2013 Men’s Asian Volleyball Championship!

The organizers plan on hosting 22 countries to compete in the biggest continental tournament in Asia!

WoW!

“Our target is to ensure we have the highest number of 22 participating teams in this important competition.” according to UAE Volleyball Association (UAEVA) president Amer Ali.“Of course, as hosts we will have our challenge of doing well. However, I cannot say that we will have a team that is capable of winning the title in two years, but at least we will have a much stronger team that is capable of competing against the best in Asia. On the other hand, the most important thing for us as organisers successfully organising it.” Ali added.

Well, IRAN is the defending Asian Champion and with Dubai hosting it, there’s no doubt they have the support of the crowd. After an impressive campaign at the 2011 World Cup, we’ve seen what Iran can do and we expect a STRONGER squad under Coach Velasco in the next 2 years. We also have a feeling they will represent Asia at the 2012 Olympics. Go go go Iran!

In case you’re wondering where the tournament will take place, it’s going to be at the Mohammed Sports Complex which was the home venue of 2 major FINA swimming events, the 2010 FINA World Championships & FINA World Cup.

The only thing Ali forgot to mention during the press conference held yesterday at the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) was that organizers plan to INVITE Volleywood to cover the tournament. Hahaha! We wish! We wish!

Congrats to Dubai for winning the bid & no doubt it’ll be another great tourney to look forward to!
