No World Cup In Japan?

With the nuclear crisis devastating the nation, we think that they should cancel their hosting duties and pass it to another country. Right? The FIVB has stated that the main concern is nuclear radiation and that seeking a new host is very possible at this time.

The FIVB needs the assurance that the air quality during the World Cup is safe for everyone.

If the FIVB plans to select a new host, then they need to do it as soon as possible. Preparations for the World Cup could take about 5 months and knowing the tournament is in November, there’s no time to waste. The organizers in Japan have insisted to remain as the host but The FIVB officials will meet next month to discuss.

“We have to help Japan, because they are in a difficult situation, and respect their decision. We don’t want to impose.” says FIVB President Wei Jizhong. The Chinese official also added that he respects the willingness of the players to compete in Japan.

In case you didn’t know, Japan has hosted the World Cup since 1991.

Due to the nuclear crisis caused by the devastating earthquake and tsunami, Japan’s men’s team already forfeited their World League home matches scheduled next month. While the women’s team is looking for new venues to play their World Grand Prix matches.

We respect the decision of the FIVB and the Japanese Volleyball Association. No doubt they will do what’s best for Japan. The crisis in Japan breaks our hearts. We have no words to explain the daily struggles of the Japanese people as they recover and rebuild their lives. They remain in our thoughts and prayers.

The Land of the Rising Sun will rise again.
