Poland Continues To Rise

Coach Anastasi has done a great job!

We can all agree that 2011 is Poland’s year. After winning their first World League (bronze) medal, they showed us what they were capable of doing at the European Champs by winning a bronze medal after winning it in 2009. Then at the recently concluded 2011 World Cup, Kurek, Bartman, Zygadlo and Team Polska played their best volleyball by winning a silver medal and the big bonus was wining a spot for the 2012 Olympics together with World Cup gold and bronze medalists, Russia and Brazil.

Take note, Poland and Russia were wild card winners yet they managed to finish in the top 2. Isn’t that ironic? Don’t you think!

Since the 2011 Season is finally over, the FIVB has updated & released the New World Rankings as of December 5th, 2011. Poland manages to climb 4 spots to #4, Brazil is still the world’s #1 team despite not winning any major FIVB tourney such as the World Cup and World League. Russia remains at #2, Italy at #3 and Cuba at #6. Without an FIVB medal since 2009, Team USA loses another spot and drops to #5. The Netherlands’ performance in the last few years has been very disappointing. We wonder what the Dutch Federation will do. They used to be in the top 10 but now Horstink and Team are currently ranked #35.

Anyways, check out the list below.
