Cuba Trains in Peru

After a successful 2010 season, the Cuban teams are in Peru to train.

They are taking the upcoming 2011 season seriously and there’s nothing wrong with that right? We expect Cuba fighting for the crown in every major volleyball tournament this year, ie men’s World League, women’s World Grand Prix and a top 3 spot in the World Cup for both divisions.

In order to get achieve their realistic goals this season, both squads are currently training in Peru a couple of months before the FIVB’s international kicks off. Peru’s high altitude suits best for their training needs. Amazing.

The following players are currently par of the training squads:

MEN: outside hitters Wilfredo Leon, Rolando Cepeda, Henry Bell and Lazaro Fundora; middle blockers Robertlandy SImon, Osmany Camejo, Isbel Mesa and Dariel Albo; opposite attackers Fernando Hernandez and Livan Osoria; setters Raidel Hierrezuelo, Yoandri Diaz and Leandro Macias; and liberos Keibel Gutierrez and Yosiel Guillen.

What happened to Joandry Leal?

WOMEN: outside attackers Kenia Carcases, Yoana Palacios and Wilma Salas; middle blockers Rachel Sanchez, Rosanna Giel and Daimara Lescay; and setters Yusidey Silie and Ana Yilian Cleger. Other players include Alena Rojas, Emily Borrell, Yenifer Álvarez, Yunieska Roble, Dayamí Sánchez and Eglys Sasvin.

Where’s Yanelis Santos (#2)? What about Rosir Calderon? Sad face.
